Hank was meant to look like a paper puppet that was cut out of a vintage circus poster, so in order to achieve a full character while still appearing flat, I modeled 7 different puppets, one for each direction he faces! In a previous rendition, he was actually meant to be a fully 3D Model, however due to a scope change, my director and I decided to change to the style completely, which ultimately lead to a more magical feel to the film, hence our beloved paper boy!

Zo, Hanks counter part, followed the same idea as Hank, 7 separate puppets for each side she faces. Each face, for both Hank and Zo, were also hand textured to give them a range of emotions. This was done using a texture swap in Unreal Engine and keyed depending on what emotion we wanted to convey.
